melissa mccarthy is a very good talent, unfortunately this one didn’t do much for me. she also co-wrote the film and it seems like she was trying to hard to be poignant as well as funny. unfortunately the focus on the former came at the cost of the latter and so neither was achieved. she’s good and so is kathy bates. there are a fair number of quality actors here, but they’re mostly underutilized. mark duplass is god awful as tammy’s love interest. when he plays himself (as he does in the league) he’s an okay actor. other than that, though, he sucks.
