good idea, but it quickly turns into just a home invasion thriller. it takes place in an alternate reality wherein a yearly purge is allowed. during this 12 hour purge citizens of the u.s. are allowed to commit any crime they want. i can see some young writer who originally came up with the idea as a sort of social commentary getting pretty pissed off as the idea turns into a film that loses sight of that element as it progresses. the class and human nature elements of the thought experiment are brought up, but not deeply explored; unfortunately.
