better than expected action film and franchise vehicle. scarlett johansson was pretty awful as the black widow. they didn’t give her much, but maybe that’s because they realized she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. i have no idea what her character is really about, she doesn’t seem to have any worthwhile powers, and she was so poorly acted that i wish she was left out completely. other than that, the cast was solid. i’m not a huge avengers fan so i don’t know all the back stories, but i was compelled by the interactions of all the different, strong personalities. like battleship the film was unexpectedly political in this way. the underlying theme of them having to band together is that unity is required. drop the ego, drop your agenda and work together to get shit done.

a bit long, but still a good film.
