didn’t quite do it for me. ferrell is a good actor and is capable of playing semi-dramatic roles (he nailed it in stranger than fiction), but only if the screenplay is right. here, i didn’t think that the film every found the right tone. it was waffling between humor and drama and didn’t do it very successfully. some films can toe the line and go back and forth with ease, but here it felt more like they were unsure of what the tone was supposed to be. cast does a fine job. ultimately the writing left something to be desired and the direction didn’t save the material.
