Reviewanother gem of a noir from the women of noir collections. this one is told in flashback by a newspaper man about a detective that gets mixed up with the wrong dame and ruins his life as a result. i won’t spoil the ending, but suffice it to say that this is well worth watching if you’re a noir fan. the femme fatale (janis carter) is truly awful and her counterpart (wife played by jeff donnell, weird first name for a woman) is great in her role. william gargan is the protagonist and is basically a walking zombie through most of the film because his life is crumbling around him. it’s about the situations we get ourselves in and can’t seem to get out of. this isn’t an a-list noir by any stretch, but it’s one of those b-films that really rises above.
