never really gets off the ground. it’s not a bad film, but it’s not good either. it’s no kicking and screaming or squid and the whale. stiller is good in a toned down, comedic version of his permanent midnight character. it’s not like he’s never done this kind of thing before, but he’s more well known for having jizz hanging off his ear than he is for this kind of performance. personally i prefer the jizz-soaked stiller, but that’s because i’m high brow like that. probably because i spent a lot of time studying at oxford as a rhodes scholar. here here, bob’s your uncle and all that good stuff mate.
