Reviewkind of a cross between tarkovsky (solaris) and polansky (rosemary’s baby). the ending left me unimpressed, though there are probably plenty who would like it. it was blair witch project-esque and they were probably inspired by this film, but they did it better. the infamous sex scene is cheesy by today’s standard. roeg’s style is noteworthy and strong, but not really to my liking. by the end i found myself asking what the point was. really, that’s all? that’s how you’re going to end the movie? it makes little to no sense. then i found out that it was originally written by daphne du maurier who also did rebecca, i believe. rebecca is another overrated suspense film that doesn’t do much for me so i guess it makes sense. note to self: don’t watch anything else inspired by du maurier.
