a cross between 1984 or brazil and the matrix. frankly i’ve never thought much of the film version of 1984 or the over-hyped brazil, but i love the matrix. equilibrium is somewhere in the middle of those three films. it’s got a decent cast and it’s produced by the weinsteins so it’s surprising this didn’t get more hype when it came out. it’s been in my netflix queue for about 6 years when i first found out about it, but it took this long to actually watch it. if you can stomach the premise (feelings have been outlawed in an attempt to avoid a fourth world war), then you’ll probably dig the film. the fight scenes are pretty good and well shot and it’s engaging enough.
