Reviewdirected by catherine hardwicke (thirteen, lords of dogtown), this teeny flick does absolutely nothing for older or intelligent viewers. i thought thirteen was pretty good, but lords of dogtown looked pretty crappy and this one was truly crappy. it glorifies stupid teenage love and the animalistic urges that we all have when we’re at our most ape-like (our teenage years). i went into the film hoping i’d like it and glean something from the vampires as societal outcasts theme, but i didn’t. i’ve never been much of a fan of the vampire genre and this one certainly didn’t win me over. vampires seem like a good vehicle for social commentary, but i’ve yet to see one that really maximizes the potential.
