doesn’t pop out to me as one of the greats in the western genre, but the experts say it is and welles says that he watched this film dozens of times to learn everything he needed to know about directing. shortly thereafter he created citizen kane and the rest is history. it’s a solid film with a lot of the genre’s themes and motifs.
