slow film with little dialogue that’s based upon the true story of some white settlers who were captured and subsequently hunted by native americans. cornel wilde set the story in africa and it changed from just another western to a film showing some rare (at the time) shots of the unknown continent. some of the cinematography was noteworthy, but it’s a fairly uninteresting film otherwise. the criterion collection thinks otherwise. i’d rather watch king solomon’s mines or quest for fire. this is a step above the most dangerous game, though.
