Reviewspoilers ahead. this one has the feeling/themes of a bunch of other films you’ve probably seen/heard of. stuff like 2001, i, robot, minority report, the game, and more. i like shia labeouf’s delivery of snappy, smart ass dialogue and there’s a decent amount here to give balance to the otherwise non-stop thriller fare that makes up the film. a lot of times reviewers will write about a film being “an edge of your seat thriller” or they’ll talk about how much it keeps you guessing and how exciting the film is, but rarely do those things actually apply to thefilm. here many of those descriptions actually apply. it’s not an amazing film, but it does keep you guessing and it does ratchet up the action to a fever pitch.
d.j. caruso is a solid director having done disturbia, salton sea, and two for the money. i would describe all of those as enjoyable and thoughtful in some way, but not A-grade films. here he brings us another of that ilk and i’m just fine with that.
