i should like this movie for a couple reasons: i was born on the fourth of july and it’s on the afi top 100. of course, neither of those things mean shit. the incorporation of music and the acting were highlights, but what it comes down to is that it’s an overly patriotic musical so i just don’t love it all that much. cagney won an oscar for his performance, but he was better in white heat.
