Reviewexpected a lot from this morris documentary which follows several characters from the small town of vernon, florida. it’s a short documentary (around an hour long) and that’s a good thing because i didn’t see much here to get excited about. some of the small town folk were interesting in their simplicity or for their storytelling abilities or eccentric lives, but i didn’t see the same interesting subjects here that i saw in later morris documentaries like mr. death, fast, cheap and out of control, or the fog of war. those films had intelligent, polarizing, and famous figures who were in compelling lines of work. vernon, florida is the polar opposite of those. if you’re into something like this then check out chris smith’s stuff, he does it better.
