add this to the long list of great films to be released in 1939. charles laughton does a great great job as the hunchback. the sets and music are also noteworthy. laughton is moving up fast on my list. he directed only one picture (night of the hunter) and it was great, he was fantastic as the villainous captain in mutiny on the bounty and he was great in a very different role here. they don’t make films like this anymore.
