noir that sags a bit in the middle, but gets interesting shortly thereafter. how interesting the film would be after the first viewing, though, is yet to be seen. there’s more visual movement in this film than in the typical noir and it’s probably a bit less dark (visually and thematically [at least for the protagonist]) as well. dana andrews is good, as is the femme fatale (linda darnell). reminded me a bit of “black angel,” but maybe a bit more because of the title than because of the similarity of the stories.
