as pretty in pink was mostly a girl’s hughes film, weird science is mostly for guys. the plot is a teenage boy’s wet dream. beyond the idea, which only really applies to immature guys like me, the film doesn’t do all that much. there are a couple flourishes of hughes’s patented use of sound, but not much else. pretty typical teenage 80s fare overall.
