supposedly one of the best japanese films of all-time; i didn’t see it. it’s a mildly interesting story about two men who leave their wives to pursue their dreams – one becomes a samurai and the other falls in love with a well-to-do woman who likes his pottery. i didn’t sense any social or political commentary, i didn’t glean any grand message regarding family or obligation.
