here’s why i think people like this movie: depp’s character is unique in recent mainstream cinema and is likable, despite his many flaws. the sfx and action keep the movie going. it’s got some good comic relief balanced between some darker themes and plenty of adventure. unfortunately, i haven’t liked either of the pictures all that much. i think i liked the first one more than this, but primarily because keira knightley played a larger part and i liked looking at her. depp does a good job with the character, but i don’t like the character the way i’m supposed to so that doesn’t work for me. add to that the fact that the movie is far too long and has a weak conclusion and you have a disinterested viewer named chris. oh, i did like the score.
