Wicker Park
Year: 2004
Grade: D
Country: USA
Director: McGuigan
Reviewdirected by the same guy who did the decent 2003 film, the reckoning. this film, though, is pretty much a piece of skunk turd. it tries really hard, and with some serious alterations to the ending, some good actors, and a different director, the film may have been successful. the idea is seemingly nice enough – weave together different influences from shakespeare to fatal attraction and make an unoriginal, but entertaining film about love and obsession. unfortunately what results is a film that tries hard, but never gets airborne. it’s weighed down by bad acting, some bad soundtrack choices, some trite direction and some bad writing. a little sense of humor probably would have gone a long way with this film since it would have lifted some of the feeling that everything within the film is so important. but without any sense of humor it comes off as overly self-important. it’s not an incredible piece of shit, but it’s also not ever going to be confused with something resembling quality.
