(1893) – first publicly exhibited film. for a long time i thought it was also the first documentary since it just shows three blacksmiths doing their job, stopping for a beer, and going back to work. it turns out, though, that the three men were hired actors who weren’t actual blacksmiths so it’s not a documentary.
