Reviewit’s a romantic version of my dinner with andre, but what would you expect from a love story done by richard linklater? i never saw the original, but you get plenty of the story through the conversation between delpy and hawke. the camera follows them as they walk throughout the city and linklater uses cuts to add punctuation to their conversation. other than that, though, the filmic part of the film is little. it’s more of a mediatation on certain ideas and two characters grappling with those ideas in a mature, but impassioned, way. it’s a good film for anyone who thinks or is, or has been, in a relationship. hawke is excellent and delpy is mostly very good.
