Reviewfunniest movie released in quite some time. i had a pain in my jaw for much of the film and that’s always a good sign. the thing that makes it that funny is that it has a round cast – it doesn’t rely completely on steve carell for the humor. paul rudd, seth rogen and romany malco all do their fair share to buttress the comedy. beyond that there are even tertiary characters who provide laughs during the lulls or in between the bigger laughs. judd apatow (who co-wrote, produced and directed this picture) is on a bit of a roll nowadays. he has a new nascar-based film coming out with will ferrell, john c. reilly, ali g and it’s directed by the same guy who did anchorman (adam mccay). now, this picture isn’t for everyone – it’s got toilet humor, some t&a, and plenty of sex-based comedy, but if you’re a friend of mine then you’re probably not averse to that so long as it’s well done. there’s even a bit of office space humor, but it’s subtle and usually used as a background, or secondary, source of humor. i liked that about it. it wasn’t being derivative, but it was still mining the (abundant) workplace humor.
