swanson does a pretty great job, holden holds his own and von stroheim should have gotten more screen time. i thought that the script was better in the first half of the film than it was in the second half. it’s an intriguing and landmark film-noir for good reason, but it’s not the best ever and it’s not wilder’s best film either.
