Reviewit takes a little while to get into its mood. bergman has a certain film mood that is different from a lot of other movies and as a result you have to give yourself some time to get mentally situated. i viewed it this time with the commentary which was pretty good, but not amazing. it was well researched and he knew what he was talking about. it’s a heavy film, but definitely one worth watching. solid filmmaking all around. the story is solid and each scene adds to the themes and characters. in just about every scene there is a noteworthy choice of lighting, staging or framing; and in each instance it’s in furtherance of the themes, rather than doing it for the sake of doing it. i’d like to own this one.
