a heist movie where you never see the heist. a time structure that borrows somewhat from another heist movie – the killing. but it’s not about those oddities or tricks…it’s about the characters, the script and the conflict. people always get down on tarantino because he makes movies that seem too familiar or because he “makes movies about movies,” but i don’t see anything wrong with borrowing from the conventions of a genre and making a good film. he’s not wholly a rip-off artist and he’s not wholly original. just enjoy the movie.
