it’s been quite some time since i first read the novella that this movie is based upon, but (obviously) it had some impact on me since i chose to use aptpupil as my domain name. i remember being disappointed when i saw the movie – not because it wasn’t a good film (it is) – but because it wasn’t as good as the story. as a whole i think that the film manages to be about as disturbing as the story, but (to me) it has a leg up since film has more tools at its disposal; and bryan singer uses them well. you’re probably better off reading the story (it’s only about 100 pages long) and it includes ‘the body,’ ‘shawshank redemption,’ and some other story that i can’t remember (it hasn’t been made into a movie, yet) so buying the book is worth your money.
