fassbinder, in the tradition of douglas sirk, looks at the underbelly of society. in this case it’s about the prejudices against interracial relationships. the story isn’t anything spectacular, but the acting is exactly what it should be and the direction is very good. the way he sets up the scenes and the sets really add to the confinement and alienation of the characters. good film.
